Applying for a Canadian County Marriage License
Both applicants must come to the Court Clerk's office in person. Walk-ins are accepted during business hours. Bring a valid government-issued photo ID. This can be a driver's license, certified birth certificate, passport, or military ID. You will fill out the Marriage License Information Sheet using black or blue ink only. Both people sign the application under oath in front of the clerk.
If both applicants are 18 or older, there is no waiting period. The clerk issues the license the same day you apply. Applicants aged 16 or 17 need a parent or legal guardian present. A certified birth certificate is also required for minors, and the 72-hour waiting period applies. No one under 16 can get a marriage license in Oklahoma except by court order.
The license is valid for 10 days after it is issued. Your ceremony must happen within those 10 days. After the wedding, the officiant and two adult witnesses sign the license. Return the signed license to the Canadian County Court Clerk within 30 days. Under Title 43, Section 7 of the Oklahoma Statutes, ministers no longer need to file credentials with the Court Clerk as of November 1, 2022.
