Oklahoma City Marriage License

Oklahoma City residents get their marriage license through the Oklahoma County Court Clerk, not from any city office. The main location sits downtown at 320 Robert S. Kerr Avenue, and a satellite office in Edmond gives you a second option. Both places handle new applications, copies, and record searches for Oklahoma City marriage license filings. You can look up past marriage license records through the state court network or call the clerk for help with older files. The process is simple but does need an appointment at the downtown office.

Where to Get a Marriage License in Oklahoma City

Oklahoma City does not have a city marriage license office. No city in the state does. All marriage license work goes through the county level. For Oklahoma City, that means the Oklahoma County Court Clerk under Rick Warren. The main office is in the Annex Building at 320 Robert S. Kerr Avenue, Room 409. You must call ahead and set up an appointment before you show up. Walk-ins are not accepted at the downtown location. The marriage license line is (405) 713-2239, and the main appointment line is (405) 713-1705.

Free parking is at the Metro Parking Garage on Robert S. Kerr. The garage is right next to the courthouse. If you want to skip the downtown crowds, the Edmond satellite office at 7 North Broadway has shorter wait times, free parking on the street, and no metal detectors at the door. Many wedding planners in the Oklahoma City area tell couples to use the Edmond office if they can.

How to Apply for an Oklahoma City Marriage License

Start by calling (405) 713-1705 to book your spot. Both people must come to the appointment at the same time. You cannot send one person first. Bring a valid photo ID like a driver's license, passport, or state ID card. The clerk will ask for full legal names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, and the names you plan to use after the wedding. If you were married before, bring your divorce decree date or a death certificate for the former spouse.

Under Title 43 of the Oklahoma Statutes, there is a six-month waiting period after a divorce before you can marry someone new. The only way around that is if you remarry the same person. Once you fill out the form and pay the $50 fee, your Oklahoma City marriage license is printed right there. No wait for adults 18 and up. The whole thing takes about 15 to 20 minutes if your paperwork is in order.

Your marriage license is good for 10 days. Hold the ceremony within that window or it expires and you have to start over. After the wedding, the officiant fills in their part and sends the form back to the Oklahoma County Court Clerk within 5 days. As of November 1, 2022, ministers no longer need to register their credentials with the clerk before performing a ceremony, per O.S. Title 43, Section 7.

Note: Both parties must sign the marriage license using the names they plan to use after the wedding, so decide on name changes beforehand.

The rules are set by state law and apply to every county. You must be 18 to apply on your own. Ages 16 to 17 need a parent or legal guardian present to sign a consent form. That also triggers a 72-hour waiting period. Nobody under 16 can marry without a court order. No blood test is needed. Oklahoma got rid of that rule back in 2005.

There is no residency rule. You can live in Texas, California, or anywhere else and still get married in Oklahoma City. Bring these items with you:

  • Valid photo ID (driver's license, passport, state ID, or military ID)
  • Social Security number for both parties
  • Divorce decree date if previously married
  • Death certificate if a former spouse is deceased
  • Certified birth certificate if under 18
  • Official English translation for foreign birth certificates

Marriage License Fees in Oklahoma City

The fee is $50. Pay at the clerk's window when your application goes through. Oklahoma County takes cash, checks, money orders, and credit or debit cards at the downtown office. The Edmond satellite also accepts multiple forms of payment. If you did premarital counseling, the fee drops to just $5. That is a $45 savings, but you need to bring the original certificate. No copies. No faxes. No email printouts.

Under 43 O.S. Section 5.1, both people must finish at least four hours of counseling with a qualified provider. That could be a licensed therapist, a member of the clergy, or someone trained in the PREP curriculum. The certificate must say both parties completed the program. Lots of churches and counseling centers in the Oklahoma City metro offer qualifying sessions, so call around if you want to save on the fee.

Copies of existing Oklahoma City marriage license records cost $1.00 for the first page. Each page after that is $0.50. A certified stamp adds $0.50 more. You can get copies in person or by mail.

The Oklahoma State Courts Network lets you look up court records by name or case number for free. This covers all 77 counties, including Oklahoma County where Oklahoma City sits. You can search from any device with internet. The On Demand Court Records system is another way to pull case data if you need it.
