How to Get a Marriage License in Murray County

Both people who want to get married must show up at the Murray County Court Clerk's office at the same time. You cannot send just one person. Bring a valid photo ID such as a driver's license, passport, or state ID card. If you hold a military ID, that works too. The clerk will ask you to fill out an application with your full name, date of birth, and the name you plan to use after the marriage. If either party was married before, you need to share how that prior marriage ended and the date of the divorce or death decree.

Once the form is done and you pay the $50 fee, the clerk issues the license on the spot. Adults who are 18 or older face no wait time under Oklahoma Statutes Title 43. You can hold your ceremony that same day if you want. The license stays good for 10 days. Your wedding must take place in Oklahoma within that window. After the ceremony, the officiant and two witnesses sign the license. It then needs to go back to the Murray County Court Clerk within 30 days so it can be filed as a permanent record.

Minors aged 16 or 17 need a parent or legal guardian present to sign consent. There is also a 72-hour wait for anyone under 18. No one under 16 can get a license unless a court order is in place.

Under Title 43, Section 5.1, copies of the certificate do not count. It must be the original document.

Copies of old marriage records are cheap. The first page is $1. Each page after that costs 50 cents. A certified copy adds about 50 cents for the certification stamp.
