How to Get a Garvin County Marriage License

Walk into the Garvin County Court Clerk's office in Pauls Valley with your partner. Both of you need to be there at the same time. Bring a valid form of ID. A driver's license works fine. So does a state ID, passport, or certified birth certificate with a raised seal. The clerk will have you fill out the application, verify your identification, and collect the fee. If both applicants are 18 or older, the license is issued right then with no waiting period. Under Oklahoma Statutes Title 43, Section 3, adults can marry the same day they apply.

Once you have the license, it stays valid for 10 days. Hold your ceremony within that time. The officiant signs the license along with two adult witnesses. Then bring the completed license back to the Garvin County Court Clerk. Try to return it within 5 days of the ceremony. Oklahoma law allows up to 30 days, but sooner is better.

There is no residency requirement. You do not have to live in Garvin County to apply here. Couples from anywhere in the state or out of state can get their marriage license in Pauls Valley.

The basic requirements are straightforward. Both parties show up. Both bring ID. Both are at least 18 years old. That is the simplest version. No blood test is needed. Oklahoma eliminated that rule back in 2005.

If one or both applicants are 16 or 17, a parent or legal guardian must come along and give consent. There is a 72-hour waiting period for minors. The young person needs a birth certificate and photo ID. Nobody under 16 can apply for a marriage license in Garvin County unless a court orders it with documentation from a physician. These rules come from Oklahoma Statutes Title 43 and apply across the state, not just in Garvin County.

  • Valid photo ID for both applicants
  • Both parties present at the same time
  • Ages 16-17 need parental consent and 72-hour wait
  • No residency requirement
  • Divorced in Oklahoma means a 6-month wait to remarry

Note: The 6-month rule after an Oklahoma divorce does not apply if you are remarrying the same person you divorced.

Garvin County Marriage License Fees

A marriage license in Garvin County costs $50. You can reduce that to $5 by bringing an original premarital counseling certificate. The certificate must show that both people completed at least four hours of counseling with a qualified provider. Under Oklahoma Statutes Title 43, Section 5.1, qualified providers include licensed therapists, religious institution representatives, and people trained in programs like PREP. The certificate has to be the original, not a copy.

Copy fees for existing marriage records run about $1 for the first page and 50 cents for each extra page. Certification adds another 50 cents. These are small fees, and most requests cost just a few dollars total. Check with the Garvin County Court Clerk about accepted payment methods before you visit.
