How to Get a Marriage License for Moore

Show up at the Cleveland County Court Clerk with your partner. Both of you need valid photo ID. A driver's license, passport, or state-issued ID card will work. If you are under 18, bring a certified birth certificate and have a parent or legal guardian come along to sign the consent form. The clerk fills out the application with both parties present. You will give your full legal name, date of birth, Social Security number, and the name you plan to use after the wedding.

If either person was married before, bring proof of how that ended. A divorce decree or death certificate for the former spouse is what the clerk needs. Oklahoma law under Title 43 of the Oklahoma Statutes sets a six-month wait after a divorce before you can marry again. The only exception is if you are remarrying the same person you divorced. Once the form is done and you pay the fee, the license is yours. No waiting period for adults 18 and over.

The license is valid for 10 days. Have your ceremony within that window. After the wedding, the officiant fills out the rest of the form. Both parties sign with the names they will use going forward. Two witnesses over 18 must also sign. The completed license goes back to the Cleveland County Court Clerk within 30 days. Sooner is better.

The requirements are the same across all 77 counties in Oklahoma. You must be 18 to apply on your own. Ages 16 and 17 need parental consent and face a 72-hour waiting period. No one under 16 can get married without a court order. No blood test is required. Oklahoma got rid of that years ago.

There is no residency rule. You do not have to live in Moore, Cleveland County, or even Oklahoma to get a license here. Bring your ID, know your Social Security number, and have divorce or death records on hand if you were married before. The process at the Cleveland County clerk is straightforward. Plan for about 30 minutes at the office.

  • Valid photo ID for both parties
  • Social Security numbers
  • Divorce decree or death certificate if previously married
  • Parental consent and certified birth certificate for ages 16-17
  • Post-marriage name each person will use

Marriage License Fees for Moore Residents

The standard fee is $50. Cash is accepted at the Cleveland County clerk window. You can cut that down to $5 with a premarital counseling certificate. That certificate has to be the original document. No copies or faxes. Both people must have completed at least four hours of counseling with a qualified provider as set out in 43 O.S. Section 5.1. Eligible providers include licensed therapists, clergy, or people trained in programs like PREP.

Need a copy of an existing marriage license on file in Cleveland County? The first page is $1.00 and each additional page is $0.50. A certified copy adds $0.50 for the certification stamp. You can request copies in person at the Norman office or submit a request by mail.

Wedding Ceremonies for Moore Couples

Cleveland County judges do not perform courthouse weddings. That means you will need to arrange your own officiant. Any ordained minister, priest, rabbi, or person authorized under Oklahoma law can perform the ceremony. Since November 1, 2022, ministers no longer need to file their credentials with the Court Clerk per O.S. Title 43, Section 7.

Two witnesses at least 18 years old must be present at the ceremony. The officiant and both witnesses sign the completed marriage license after the wedding. Make sure the form gets back to the Cleveland County Court Clerk on time. Late returns create headaches for your marriage record.

Note: The Moore Municipal Court at 101 E. Main Street handles city violations only and has nothing to do with marriage licenses.
