How to Get a Marriage License in Pawnee County

Come in together. Both of you must be there at the same time. Bring valid photo ID. A driver's license is the easiest option. Passports, state IDs, and military IDs work too. The clerk needs your full legal name, date of birth, Social Security number, and the name you want to go by after the wedding. If you have been married before, have information ready about when and how that marriage ended.

Once you fill out the application and hand over the $50 fee, the clerk gives you the license right away. No waiting period for adults 18 and older. That is the rule across the whole state under Oklahoma Statutes Title 43. The license is good for 10 days. Get married within that time or it expires. After the ceremony, the officiant signs the completed form and sends it back to the Pawnee County Court Clerk.

Minister credentials no longer need to be filed with the Court Clerk. That statewide change took effect November 1, 2022, under O.S. Title 43, Section 7. Any ordained minister or authorized person can perform the ceremony without filing paperwork first.

Note: The Pawnee County clerk accepts cash and cashier's checks in office, with credit and debit card payments available by phone.

State law sets the same rules for all 77 counties. Both people must be at least 18 years old to apply without any extra steps. If you are 16 or 17, a parent or legal guardian has to come with you, bring valid ID, and sign a consent form. The minor applicant needs a certified birth certificate. A 72-hour waiting period kicks in for anyone under 18. Nobody under 16 can get a license without a court order.

There is no blood test needed in Oklahoma. That rule was dropped back in 2005. And there is no residency requirement. You can live anywhere and still get a Pawnee County marriage license. The license is valid for use at a ceremony held anywhere in Oklahoma. Here is a quick checklist of what to bring:

  • Valid photo ID (driver's license, passport, state ID)
  • Social Security number
  • Proof of age if under 18 (certified birth certificate)
  • Divorce decree date or death certificate of prior spouse if applicable
  • Parental consent and guardian present if under 18

Oklahoma law requires a six-month wait after a divorce before you can marry a new person. That does not apply if you are remarrying the same person you divorced.

The provider can be a licensed mental health professional, a member of the clergy, or someone trained in an approved program like PREP. When you finish, you get a certificate.
