Apply for a Creek County Marriage License
Both people must appear in person at the Creek County Court Clerk's office to apply. You cannot send someone on your behalf. Walk in during business hours and fill out the application at the counter. The clerk verifies your IDs, takes the fee, and issues the license right away if both applicants are 18 or older. No appointment is needed.
Bring a valid photo ID. A driver's license is the easiest option. A passport, state ID, military ID, or certified birth certificate with a raised seal all work. Oklahoma does not require a blood test. That rule ended in 2005. There is no residency requirement either, so people from outside Creek County or even outside Oklahoma can apply here. Under Oklahoma Statutes Title 43, the marriage license is valid in any county across the state.
Once issued, the license is good for 10 days. Hold your ceremony within that time. After the wedding, have the officiant and two adult witnesses sign the license. Then return it to the Creek County Court Clerk. The law says to bring it back within 30 days, but the sooner the better.
Note: Creek County accepts walk-ins for marriage license applications during all regular business hours, no appointment necessary.
Creek County Marriage License Requirements
The state sets the rules, and Creek County follows them. Both applicants need valid photo ID and must be at least 18 years old to apply without parental consent. There is no waiting period for adults. You walk in, apply, and walk out with the license the same day. No blood test. No residency rule.
If one or both applicants are 16 or 17, things are different. A parent or legal guardian must be present at the clerk's office to sign a consent form. After filing the application, the couple has to wait 72 hours before the license is issued. Under Oklahoma law, nobody younger than 16 can get a marriage license without a court order accompanied by a physician's letter.
There is another rule worth knowing. If you got divorced in Oklahoma, you must wait six months before marrying someone new. The only exception is if you are remarrying your former spouse. This rule comes from Title 43 of the Oklahoma Statutes. Two witnesses who are at least 18 years old must be present at your wedding ceremony. The officiant can be a judge, retired judge, or an ordained minister. Since November 2022, ministers no longer have to file credentials with the Court Clerk before performing a wedding.
Fees for a Creek County Marriage License
The standard fee for a marriage license in Creek County is $50. Every Oklahoma county charges the same amount. You can reduce that to $5 with an original premarital counseling certificate. The certificate must confirm that both parties completed at least four hours of counseling. Qualified providers include licensed mental health professionals, religious institution representatives, or anyone trained in a nationally recognized curriculum such as PREP. Under Oklahoma Statutes Title 43, Section 5.1, only the original certificate is accepted. No copies, faxes, or emails.
Certified copies of existing Creek County marriage records cost $5.00 each. If you need plain copies, most county offices charge around $1.00 for the first page and $0.50 for each additional page. A record search fee of $5 to $10 may apply depending on how far back the clerk needs to look.
