Getting a Marriage License in Osage County

Show up with the other person. Both of you need to be there. Bring a valid photo ID like a driver's license, passport, or state-issued ID card. The clerk will need your full name, date of birth, and Social Security number. You also pick the name you want to use after the wedding. If either of you has been married before, bring details about when and how that marriage ended.

After you fill out the application and pay the fee, the license is issued right then. No waiting period for anyone 18 or older under Oklahoma Statutes Title 43. The license is good for 10 days. Your ceremony needs to happen within that time frame. After the wedding, the officiant signs the form and sends it back to the Osage County Court Clerk. That is how the marriage becomes part of the official county record.

Note: Osage County covers 2,304 square miles, so plan extra travel time if you live on the far side of the county from Pawhuska.

The rules in Osage County match every other county in Oklahoma. Both people must be at least 18 years old to apply without parental consent. Ages 16 and 17 need a parent or guardian there to sign. The minor must have a certified birth certificate (not a hospital copy). A 72-hour wait applies for applicants under 18. Court approval is required for anyone under 16, though that is extremely rare.

There is no blood test. No residency requirement. You do not need to live in Osage County or anywhere in Oklahoma to get a license here. The license works for a ceremony held anywhere in the state. Bring these items to the courthouse:

  • Valid photo ID (driver's license, passport, state ID, military ID)
  • Social Security number
  • Divorce decree date or death certificate if previously married
  • Certified birth certificate for applicants under 18
  • Parental consent and guardian ID for minors

If your previous marriage ended in divorce, Oklahoma law says you must wait six months before marrying again. The only exception is if you plan to remarry the same person.
