Applying for a Marriage License in Tulsa

Both people must show up in person at the same time. Bring a valid photo ID. The clerk asks for full legal names, birth dates, Social Security numbers, and the names you plan to use after the wedding. If either person was married before, you need the date of the divorce or a death certificate. Under Title 43 of the Oklahoma Statutes, there is a six-month wait after a divorce before you can marry someone new in Oklahoma. Marrying the same former spouse is the only exception to that rule.

Once you fill out the form and pay $50, the Tulsa marriage license prints on the spot. No waiting period for adults. The license is valid for 10 days. Have your ceremony within that time. After the wedding, your officiant and two witnesses sign the form. The officiant returns it to the Tulsa County Court Clerk within 5 days. Ministers do not need to register their credentials with the clerk before the ceremony, per O.S. Title 43, Section 7.

You must be 18 or older to apply without a parent. Ages 16 and 17 need a parent or guardian present to sign consent. That adds a 72-hour wait before the license is issued. Under 16 requires a court order. No blood test. Oklahoma dropped that in 2005. There is no residency requirement either, so out-of-state couples can get a Tulsa marriage license with no problem.

Bring your ID with your current legal name on it. If your ID does not match your legal name, bring documents that show the change. Here is what you need:

  • Valid photo ID (driver's license, passport, state ID, military ID)
  • Social Security number
  • Date of previous divorce if applicable
  • Death certificate if former spouse is deceased
  • Certified birth certificate if under 18

Tulsa Marriage License Fees

The fee is $50. Premarital counseling drops it to $5. Under 43 O.S. Section 5.1, both people need at least four hours of counseling from a qualified provider. You must bring the original certificate. No copies or faxes. The provider can be a licensed therapist, clergy member, or someone trained in the PREP program. Many Tulsa area churches and counseling offices provide qualifying sessions.

At the main Tulsa courthouse, you can pay with cash, credit card, debit card, check, or money order. The Broken Arrow satellite takes credit and debit cards only. Plan ahead if you are going to the satellite location.
