Kiowa County is named after the Kiowa Indian tribe and sits in the southwestern part of Oklahoma. Hobart is the county seat and the largest town in the area. The courthouse sees relatively low foot traffic compared to urban counties, which means less waiting for you. If you plan to drive in from outside the area, a quick phone call to (580) 726-5125 can confirm the office is open and the clerk is available.

The clerk's staff can pull records from the archives and make copies while you wait. They also accept mail requests for copies of marriage license records. Send your request to the courthouse address with the names, approximate date of the marriage, and payment for the copy fee.

Apply for a Kiowa County Marriage License

Both applicants must go to the Kiowa County Court Clerk's office at the same time. There is no way around this. One person cannot apply on behalf of both. Each of you needs a valid photo ID. A driver's license, state ID, passport, or military ID will work. The clerk checks your identity and date of birth before you fill out the application.

The form asks for full names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, and a history of prior marriages. Under Oklahoma Statutes Title 43, you must disclose every past marriage and how it ended. Divorced applicants must wait six months before they can apply for a new marriage license in Oklahoma. That waiting period does not apply if you plan to remarry the same former spouse. The clerk may want proof of your divorce if it happened recently.

Adults 18 and older receive the Kiowa County marriage license the same day they apply. No waiting. The license is good for 10 days. Plan your ceremony within that time. After the wedding, the officiant signs the license along with two witnesses who are both at least 18 years old. You then return the signed license to the Kiowa County Court Clerk. The law says within 30 days, but the clerk would rather have it back in about five.

The minimum age is 18 with no extra requirements. Applicants aged 16 or 17 can apply in Kiowa County, but a parent or guardian must come to the clerk's office and sign a consent form. There is a 72-hour waiting period for minors. Under Oklahoma law, nobody under 16 can get a marriage license without a court order.

No blood test is needed. Oklahoma eliminated that rule in 2005. There is also no residency requirement. You can live anywhere and still get a marriage license from the Kiowa County Court Clerk. The license works in all 77 Oklahoma counties, so your ceremony can take place outside of Kiowa County if you prefer.

  • Both parties must appear together
  • Valid photo ID for each applicant

Marriage licenses in Kiowa County are public records. Anyone can request a copy. You do not need to be one of the people named on the license. The Court Clerk charges a small per-page fee for copies.

Fees for a Kiowa County Marriage License

The fee is $50 in Kiowa County. This is the standard rate across all of Oklahoma. You can get it down to $5 if you bring an original premarital counseling certificate. Under Oklahoma Statutes Title 43, Section 5.1, the counseling must be at least four hours with a qualified provider. Qualified providers include licensed mental health professionals, representatives of religious institutions, and people trained in nationally recognized curricula like PREP.

Only the original certificate is accepted. Copies and digital versions will not work. The $45 savings was designed by the Oklahoma legislature to encourage couples to get counseling before the wedding.

Existing Kiowa County marriage license records can be copied for about $1 per first page and 50 cents for each additional page. Certified copies cost roughly $1.50. A record search fee of $5 to $10 may apply. Call (580) 726-5125 to ask about accepted payment methods. Some smaller Oklahoma county offices take only cash or money orders.

Note: Bring the original premarital counseling certificate to the clerk's window to qualify for the $5 reduced marriage license fee.
