How to Get a Marriage License in Washita County

Both people must appear at the courthouse at the same time. You cannot send just one person. Each applicant needs a valid photo ID. A state driver's license, passport, or military ID all work fine. You will also need your Social Security number handy.

Under Oklahoma Statutes Title 43, there is no blood test requirement and no residency requirement. You do not have to live in Washita County or even in Oklahoma to apply for a marriage license here. Adults 18 and older get the license right away with no waiting period. The clerk processes it while you wait. If either person is 16 or 17 years old, a parent or guardian must be there to sign consent, and a 72-hour wait applies before the license is issued. Nobody under 16 can get a marriage license except by court order.

After you get the license, it stays valid for 10 days. Hold your ceremony within that window. The officiant and two witnesses sign the completed license. Then you return it to the Washita County Court Clerk within 30 days so it becomes a permanent record on file.

The rules come from Oklahoma state law and apply the same way in all 77 counties. When you visit the Washita County courthouse, bring these items:

  • Valid photo ID for both applicants
  • Social Security number
  • Both parties present together in person
  • Date of prior divorce decree if applicable
  • Parental consent for ages 16-17 with birth certificate
  • Two witnesses for the wedding ceremony

If you were divorced in Oklahoma, you must wait six months before marrying someone new. This rule does not apply if you are remarrying the same person you divorced. The six-month count starts from the date on the divorce decree.

Note: Washita County marriage license applications require both parties to appear in person with valid photo identification.
