Both people show up at the courthouse in Taloga. You walk in together during office hours. The clerk gives you the application form. Both applicants fill it out, show valid ID, and pay the $50 fee. If you are both 18 or older, there is no wait. The clerk gives you the license that same visit.

Valid ID means a driver's license, state photo ID, passport, military ID, or certified birth certificate with a raised seal. Oklahoma has not required a blood test since January 2005. There is no residency rule either. You can live anywhere and still apply for a marriage license in Dewey County. Under Oklahoma Statutes Title 43, the license is valid in any county across the state, so it does not matter where you plan to hold the ceremony.

After the ceremony, the officiant signs the license along with two adult witnesses. Then bring the signed license back to the Dewey County Court Clerk within 30 days. The license itself is only good for 10 days from the issue date, so schedule the ceremony within that window. Under Title 43, Section 7, judges, retired judges, and ordained ministers can all perform the wedding. Ministers have not been required to file credentials with the clerk since November 2022.

Minors aged 16 or 17 can get a marriage license in Dewey County if a parent or legal guardian appears in person to sign a consent form. After the application is filed, there is a mandatory 72-hour waiting period before the license is issued. If either applicant was divorced in Oklahoma, the six-month remarriage restriction applies. You cannot marry anyone other than your former spouse during that time. The Dewey County Court Clerk will ask about prior marriages on the application. Two witnesses aged 18 or older are required at the ceremony itself.

Note: Dewey County was originally called "County D" when it was created in 1891 and renamed in 1898 after Admiral George Dewey.
