Getting a Woodward County Marriage License

Both parties must appear at the clerk's office at the same time. One person cannot apply on behalf of both. Each applicant needs a valid photo ID. A state driver's license, passport, or military ID all work. Have your Social Security number ready. If you were previously married, know the date that marriage ended.

Under Oklahoma Statutes Title 43, there is no blood test requirement. There is no residency requirement either. You can live in Texas or Kansas and still apply for a marriage license at the Woodward County courthouse. Adults 18 and older get their license right away. No waiting period. The clerk processes it while you wait. Minors ages 16 or 17 need a parent or guardian present to sign consent, and a 72-hour waiting period kicks in. Marriage under 16 is only possible with a court order.

Once issued, the license is valid for 10 days. Hold your ceremony within that time frame. The officiant and two adult witnesses sign the completed license after the wedding. Then it needs to go back to the Woodward County Court Clerk within 30 days for filing. After that, it becomes a permanent record.

Note: The Woodward County marriage license is valid for use anywhere in Oklahoma, not just within Woodward County.

  • Valid photo ID for both people
  • Social Security number
  • Both applicants present in person together
  • Date of prior divorce decree if applicable
  • Parental consent and birth certificate for ages 16-17
  • Two witnesses needed at the ceremony

Oklahoma law includes a six-month remarriage restriction after divorce. If you were divorced in Oklahoma, you have to wait six months from the date of the decree before marrying someone new. You can remarry your former spouse at any time. This restriction is statewide and the Woodward County clerk will verify your divorce history on the application.

Woodward County Marriage License Fees

The fee is $50. Every county in Oklahoma charges the same. You can reduce it to $5 with a premarital counseling certificate. Per Oklahoma Statute 43 O.S. Section 5.1, both parties must finish at least four hours of counseling from a licensed mental health professional or authorized religious institution representative. Present the original certificate at the time of application.

Copies do not qualify for the discount. The counseling must address communication, conflict management, and commitment. If you complete the counseling ahead of time, you save $45 on the license fee. That is a big savings for a few hours of your time.
