How to Apply for a Marriage License in Enid
Both people must appear at the Garfield County courthouse at the same time. Bring valid photo ID. The clerk accepts a driver's license, passport, or birth certificate with a raised seal. The application is filled out with the clerk present. You will provide your full legal names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, and the names you plan to use after the wedding. If either person was married before, bring a divorce decree or a death certificate for the former spouse.
Under Title 43 of the Oklahoma Statutes, there is a six-month wait after a divorce before you can marry someone new. That does not apply if you are remarrying the same person. Once the application is done and you pay the $50 cash fee, the marriage license is issued right there. No waiting period for adults 18 and older. The license is valid for 10 days. Day one is the day you get it. So if you pick it up on a Monday, it expires the following Thursday.
After your ceremony, the officiant fills out the rest of the form. Return the completed license to the Garfield County Court Clerk. The preferred timeline is within 5 days, but you have up to 30 days. You must use the book and page number provided by the clerk when completing the license form.
Enid Marriage License Requirements
The same state rules apply in Enid as in every other Oklahoma county. Age 18 and up means no parental consent and no wait. Ages 16-17 need a parent or legal guardian to appear and sign. That also triggers a 72-hour waiting period. Under 16 requires a court order. No blood test is needed. There is no residency requirement. You can live in Texas or Kansas or anywhere else and still get a marriage license in Enid.
Bring cash. This is important. Garfield County does not accept credit cards, debit cards, or checks for marriage license fees. Cash only. If you show up without cash, you will have to find an ATM before you can finish the process. That is a detail many people miss and it can cost you time.
- Valid photo ID for both parties
- Social Security numbers
- Cash for the $50 fee (no cards or checks accepted)
- Divorce decree or death certificate if previously married
- Parental consent form for ages 16-17
Note: Garfield County accepts cash only for marriage license fees, so plan ahead and bring exact change or bills.

The standard fee is $50 in cash. No exceptions. If you bring a premarital counseling certificate, the fee drops to $5. The certificate must be the original document, not a copy. Both parties must have finished at least four hours of counseling with a qualified provider as defined in 43 O.S. Section 5.1. The Garfield County Court Clerk office has premarital counseling forms available if you need them.
There is no fee to register minister credentials. Since November 1, 2022, ministers no longer need to file credentials with the Court Clerk anyway per O.S. Title 43, Section 7. Copies of existing marriage license records cost $1.00 for the first page and $0.50 for each additional page. A certified stamp adds $0.50.
