How to Apply for a Tillman County Marriage License

Both people must visit the Tillman County Court Clerk together. You cannot send one person or apply by mail. Bring a valid photo ID. A driver's license, passport, or state-issued ID all work. The clerk will ask for full legal names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, and any prior marriage details. Fill out the form, pay the fee, and you get the marriage license right then.

There is no waiting period for adults 18 and over. Under Oklahoma Title 43, you can get married the same day. Applicants aged 16 or 17 need a parent or guardian present to consent. They face a 72-hour wait. Nobody under 16 can get a Tillman County marriage license without a court order.

Your Tillman County marriage license is valid for 10 days after it is issued. The ceremony must happen within that window. After the wedding, the officiant and two adult witnesses sign the license. Return the signed document to the Tillman County Court Clerk. The law gives you 30 days, but getting it back quickly is best. Once filed, the license becomes part of the county's permanent records and can be accessed by anyone who asks.

Note: Tillman County marriage licenses must be returned to the Court Clerk within 30 days after the ceremony is performed.

Oklahoma does not require a blood test or residency to get a marriage license. Many Tillman County applicants come across the Red River from Texas. That is perfectly fine. The license is valid for use at any ceremony held in Oklahoma.

What you need at the Tillman County clerk's office:

  • Driver's license, state ID, or passport
  • Certified birth certificate as backup ID
  • Social Security number for both parties
  • Date your prior marriage ended, if applicable
  • Parental consent form for ages 16-17
  • Birth certificate required for minors

Under Title 43, Section 3, both applicants sign the application in front of the Tillman County clerk. Two witnesses must attend the ceremony, and the officiant must be authorized under Oklahoma law. That includes judges, ministers, and other recognized officials. If either person had a prior Oklahoma divorce, there is a six-month waiting period before you can marry someone new. Remarrying the same former spouse is exempt from that rule.
